Diesel dredgers are self-contained dredging equipment whose ground pump is driven directly by a diesel engine. These dredgers have a number of additional technical advantages that make them indispensable in various industries. However, using of a diesel engine also entails some restrictions on mining conditions.
When is it better to use a diesel dredger?
- In water bodies with a distance from the shore of 400 meters or more
- When clearing the fairway to allow passage of vessels on both sides of the dredger
- In cases where there is no transportation access to the shore.
In all other cases, the use of an electric dredger is more economically viable. Especially when a cable feeding the dredger is installed along the slurry pipeline to the onshore reclamation map.
Limitations of diesel dredgers
- Need for refueling, fuel control, additional fuel costs
If there is no possibility of refueling on the water (or there is no license), it is better not to buy a diesel dredger. Also, it is worth considering the additional cost of diesel fuel, the presence of a refueling boat or other vessel for transportation of fuel.
- Maintenance and repairs are labor intensive
Maintenance of a diesel dredger on the water requires some knowledge and a lot of labor contribution. You should change the oil, keep an eye on the diesel engine and the drive belts. It is necessary to switch on and off the gearbox, to close and open the clutch, to watch the clutch disks.
In the electric dredger all maintenance is reduced to checking the connection of power cables.
- It is necessary to keep the concentration of no more than 10 - 18% of sand content in the slurry
A technical feature of the diesel dredger is the loss of rotation as the soil concentration increases. This feature increases the risk of clogging the slurry pipeline when working with long slurry pipelines or deep diving.

The delivery time of diesel dredgers depends on the specific configuration of the equipment you need. If you need a dredger with typical parameters, the average delivery time from ordering is minimum 50 days.
If you need a customized diesel dredger, the delivery time can be extended depending on the complexity of the requirements.
The dredger can be delivered to any city of the Russian Federation, directly to your site.
It is possible to deliver diesel dredgers under trade-in program or leasing.

Please note that the diesel dredger is more demanding to maintain - you need to change the oil, monitor the operation of the diesel and drive belts, engage and disengage the gearbox, close and open the clutch, watch the clutch disks.
On an electric dredger all maintenance is limited to checking the connection of the power cables.
Definitely, service life of a machine depends on its frequency of use, load and operating conditions. Any specified term implies compliance with the instructions for use, operation within the specified power limits, availability of preventive inspections and service procedures.
If all parameters are met, the average service life of diesel dredgers is 15 to 20 years. At the same time, the warranty period of the supplier is 5 years.
